Google Search Engine Tips

Google's 'PageRank' relies on link structure
(popularity) as an indicator of an individual
page's value. Google interprets a link from page A
to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But,
Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes,
or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page
that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are
themselves 'important' weigh more heavily and
help to make other pages 'important.'

Also, Google combines PageRank with text-matching
techniques to find pages that are both important
and relevant to a visitor's search. Google goes
far beyond the number of times a term appears on
a page and examines all aspects of the page's
content (and the content of the pages linking to
it) to determine if it's a good match for the
visitor's query.

So, it is not only important that you have good
'Link Popularity', you need to have links from
relevant pages. If your site is about 'Art Prints'
then links from 'nutritional supplement' sites are
of little value. Thus thwarting the 'link farms'
attempt to simply generate lots of links.

Getting into Google

Google partners on the Web include Yahoo! and
Netscape (DMOZ). You should consider submitting
your site to either or both of these directories.
Once your site is included in either of them you
can expect to see it appear in the Google index in
four to eight weeks.

Also, you can submit directly to Google.

Go to http://www.google.com/addurl.html and follow the instructions. You can submit your site as often as you like, but multiple submissions will not improve the likelihood of your site being added or accelerate the process.
